The Aztecs were a tribe from Mexico. They lived about 1 thousand years ago.
They were very advanced for their time. They ruled over most of Mexico
for over 300 years until the Spaniards came.
The Aztecs ate lots of different foods. They ate chillies, beans, tomatoes, peppers
and other types of vegetables.
They also ate maize. For 19 days each year they were only allowed to
eat maize and beans.
The Aztecs also ate dogs, monkeys, frogs, tadpoles, lizards and insects.
Luckily we didn't have to sample them.
"My big sister came in to help us out today!"
The Aztecs would sacrifice people to their gods. They believed that this would help
their crops grow.

It was lovely having our brothers and sisters visit our classroom today.
The Aztecs' favourite thing to drink was chocolate, but it was a lot more bitter in Aztecs' time than the average hot chocolate these days.
Emma's dad provided us with some from his coffee shop called the Galway Roast. He even gave us marshmallows to put in!
I don't think the Aztecs were that lucky!
Liam's mammy made a gorgeous chocolate biscuit cake for us. It wasn't a food of the Aztecs but it went down a treat with our hot chocolate!
