Out Of This World!

Conor's Grandad
Conor's Grandad, Finbar came into our class. He came on Thursday the twelfth of May. He knows so much about the weather and the stars because he used to work for MET Éireann. He brought his big telescope that he uses for looking into the sky. It is almost as big as himself!
He told us to stand up on a chair and look through a little tube with some glass on top. He faced the telescope towards a big tree a good distance away.Once you looked through it,it was as if you were standing right beside the tree.He said that sometimes during the night, if he looked through the telescope,he could see the moon and other planets. He said that Saturn looks the coolest. He brought in a model of the planets for us to keep in our classroom. It is called a planetarium and is really cool. He also has a special type of lens that he puts on the telescope so that he can look at the sun through it.

YOU SHOULD NEVER EVER LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE SUN OR IT COULD BLIND YOU!

We has such a lovely afternoon with Finbar and we are so lucky that Conor has such a cool grandad!
